Registration and Swim Queries

How good at swimming do I need to be?

Each swimmer must be confident that they are able to swim the distance that they are registered for and beyond  in a pool

Can I have a refund if I can no longer take part?

Unfortunately we don’t offer a refund, however, the entry can be deferred to the following year.

Can I defer my entry to the following year?

Yes.  There will be a charge of £12 for all deferrals to cover our admin costs.  Please email ……….to defer your entry.  The closing date for all deferred entries is Sunday August 5th 2018.

Can I book the swim and register on the day?

Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons, there are no new registrations on the day of the swim.  The online registration of the swim closes on Sunday 5th August.

I can no longer swim on the day, can my friend take my place?

Due to the requirement that each swimmer confidentially notifies One Big Swim of any medical issues and or medications, we can not allow swimmers to take the place of another swimmer.

What is the water temperature likely to be?

The water temperature is difficult to predict as this depends on the outside temperature and the amount of rainfall leading up the event. Based on the time of the year that the event is taking place we estimate that the water temperature will be between 16 to 19 degrees.  We will keep everyone informed of the water temperature via our social media.

What’s included in the entrance fee?

Each swimmer will receive full safety support on both the water and at the venue, a One Big Swim swimming cap, medal on completion and all swims are officially timed and your times can be viewed online.

Venue Queries

Is there a baggage drop?

Yes for small bags.  Please don’t leave valuables in your bags.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes.  There is free parking at the venue. If you wish to, swimmers and spectators can make a small donation to the parking attendant who are volunteering for our chosen charity

Are there toilets and showers on site?

Yes, these are located next to the lake.

Can family and friends come and support the swimmers?

YES! We would love for all your family and friends to be with you to support you on the day.  There is a tarmac path circling the entire lake and we encourage all spectators to support the swimmers during the day by ‘walking the lake’.

Is there food and drink available on site?

Yes.  There is a café and restaurant at the venue.

I want to volunteer, how do I register?

If you’re not swimming you can still become involved with the One Big Swim event.  We are on the look out for volunteers to help with our on the day coordination and to help make the day a memorable one for all the swimmers and supporters.  Please get in touch if you’d like to get involved.  Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and refreshments during the day.
